Business challenge
I was hired by Computerworld to write several news stories for two of their online magazines: Emmerce and Healthcare Journal. Computerworld is a business unit of IDG (2002 revenues: $2.58 billion; 12,000 employees worldwide).

What I did
Each article required extensive online research and numerous interviews with industry experts. I wrote. I revised, and revised again. I met my deadlines.

Impact
My editors were pleased with the articles, so I have to assume they were useful (dare I say "enjoyable"?) to the IT managers who read them.

High point: Interviewing a computer industry veteran at a clearinghouse for health insurance claims. "We usually have to analyze and develop a keyboard emulation scheme and a screen scraper," he said. "It's old stuff. You can't hire kids out of school to do that now. They all want to build objects and Web sites."
