About this site

"wyRiwyg"
"What you see is what you get" (wysiwyg) describes "a system in which content displayed during editing appears very similar to the final output."*

WyRiwyg ("What you READ is what you get") is my loud mashup of that acronym--a reminder that Web users spend most of their time reading text. Scanning a Web page or application interface, they're also "reading" the navigation, trying to get (understand) where they are and where they can go next. As a Web copy writer and information architect, I try to make both "gets" quick, easy and satisfying for users.

Hand-made in Massachusetts
I built this site myself because hands-on graphic production and coding is too often not part of my job. I used a Mac with Adobe GoLive, Illustrator, Photoshop, Inspiration and Word; a fistful of Sanford Pro-Touch 9 mm. pencils; a bevy of Papermate color pens; and a flock of Post-its.

Blameless accomplices
Thanks to Kate Levy (Web strategist, Intelsat) for advice on CSS; to Cindy Buzby (President, Profile Staffing), Tom Bolton (product designer, OneSource) and Anne-Marie Howe (marital experience designer) for critiquing an early design; and to Joel Bennett (Bennett Productions) for the photo on this page.

Sites I browsed when I needed inspiration were designed by Studio Mobius, Carbon IQ, 37Signals and Advanced Common Sense. Henri Matisse (the painter) informed the logo. Spencer (the dog) took me on walks.
